You might be country if.....

On the way home from dinner last night,we passed my favorite farm field. Now I know that not everyone has a favorite field, but I do. It is about halfway between our house and the town of Albion ,at the corner of Albion-Eagle Harbor Road and Gaines Basin Road. The north border of the field is the Erie Canal.I like the way the field slopes up gradually towards the west and each season has something to offer, visually. In the winter, when covered with snow,it is easy to see herds of deer crossing. I like when the Combines work through the night on the field, either getting ready for planting or harvesting what has been grown there. Once,at night, as I was driving home,I looked over at the edge of the field and saw 10 deer lined up waiting to cross. Another time,I stopped as several deer did cross the road from the field to the opposite side of the road. Following the doe and two half grown fawns was a kitten.....I can guess that the kitten was a feral cat. The county animal shelter is on one of the roads that border the field and unfortunatly people abandon cats there and they take to the fields to hide before they can be taken in.
I asked my husband if he had a favorite field and he mentioned one that is just west of us on our road. It is on the south side of the road and falls down steeply and away,to stretch out perhaps a mile or so to the south. It is not always planted in the same crop,so often has a patchwork look when growing. I don't have any pictures of the fields, but have included a lovely picture of my chickens.

These chickens are Barred Rocks and lovely to look at. They live in a beautiful coop that my son built for them. They do not have individual names, I just refer to them as the 'girls'.

Winter Wonderland

I have my grandson visiting today and the first thing he wanted to do was to go outside and make snow angels. So we all got bundled up and out we went. Maeve the Corgi and Taylor the Setter went too. each time my Grandson tried to make a snow angel,Maeve jumped on his face,so he soon abandoned that. The snow was beautiful, glittering like diamonds because of the cold weather, the bright blue sky and sun really made it seem like a wonderland. We walked along the little creek on the property and poor Maeve had to really work to get through all that unbroken snow. From time to time she completely disappeared and then would pop up out of the snow. At times it tickled my Grandson so much he could not even stand up and would fall into the snow, whereupon,Maeve would come over to tackle him. Finally both Henry and Maeve were pooped and we headed back to the house to thaw out.

Day in the life of....

After all the snow we have had over the last few days, the temperature also plummeted last night. I had a 10 o'clock hair appointment and was somewhat annoyed when my car wouldn't start. Hubby was great and gave me a ride into town and I was able to get that grey covered...whew..turns out the battery was not dead from the cold, but the started motor had died..All fixed now.Later Maeve, the Corgi helped me feed and water the chickens. I don't mind the snow at all,but once the temperature drops under 20,I do get a little cranky.
